Kushtdepdi: harmony of cultural traditions and spiritual experience
An event dedicated to the introduction of the Turkmen ritual dance kushtdepdi into the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO was held today in the Ashgabat Palace of Congresses.
Historians, masters of arts, cultural figures, among whom there were many well-known personalities in the country, told about various aspects of the Kushtdepdi phenomenon. The very same ancient ritual dance that survived to this day was performed by popular folklore groups. The beauty and originality of this unique dance, performed in ancient times in all parts of Turkmenistan, is considered a symbol of the unity of the Turkmen people.
So, according to the historian, expert of national creativity A. Baltaev, the distinctive feature of the choreography of kushtdepdi is that all performers of the dance are independent, but they are united by a spiritual connection with each other and nature. Kushtdepdi is a unique example of national folklore, reflecting the harmony of the historical and cultural traditions of the Turkmen people and their spiritual experience.
Let us recall that the decision to introduce the dance of kushtdepdi into the list of masterpieces of the spiritual culture of mankind was unanimously adopted during the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held on December 7 in the South Korean city of Jeju.
