Last season, the vice-champion of Turkmenistan has already met with these clubs in the Asian tournament. In the qualification, Ahal beat Khujand with a total score 3: 0 and secured a place in the AFC Cup Group stage, where Altyn Asyr, Istiklol and Alay clubs were its opponents.
That time FC Ahal failed its campaign and took third place in the group, but won over FC Alay Osh, defeating in the sum of two games by a score 8: 2.
