Turkmen basketball enters a new phase of development

Ashgabat hosted the next match of the National basketball League of Turkmenistan between the leading teams of the country – "MGSKA" (Ministry of defense) and "Binagyar" (State Institute of architecture and construction).
In an exciting game in which it was initially impossible to determine the clear favorite, the players of "MGSKA" defeated his opponent with a score of 80:67, which will help them to gain a foothold in the top three of the championship. According to the standings, this team won four games out of five, earning a total of nine points.
The key strategy of the National basketball federation of Turkmenistan is to make this sport one of the most popular in the country and at the same time take a leading position in Central Asia, making a worthy competition to other teams.
To this end, cooperation with the international basketball Federation is also actively developing, the experts of which regularly hold seminars to improve the skills of Turkmen coaches.
For example, a specialist from Serbia, a former coach of the women's basketball team of Turkmenistan Milan Kotarats held such courses at the end of last year. It was he who led our basketball players to the bronze medal at the Asian games-2017 in Ashgabat. Now the women's team is headed by a student of this outstanding coach Alexander Pashkov.
The Federation together with the Ministry of sport and youth policy organizes competitions to identify talented children who will form the backbone of the team at foreign tournaments. Thanks to this, three Turkmen teams made their way to the world Cup 2019-the national women's team (June 18-23, Amsterdam), Junior basketball players (up to 23 years, October 2-6, XI'an) and the youth team (up to 18 years, June 3-7, Ulaanbaatar).
Given the potential of the men's and women's teams of Turkmenistan in 3x3 basketball in the international arena, it is planned to increase the chances of athletes in classical basketball. In particular, the national and youth teams are expected to participate in the qualifying tournaments of the Asian Cup.
While experienced players, such as Aina Gokova, are focused on conquering new heights in 3x3 basketball, representatives of the Federation are aimed at educating new "stars" in all variations of this sport, which means the transition to a new stage of basketball development in Turkmenistan.
