Turkmenistan eyes on hosting international volleyball events


The issues of development of volleyball and possible hosting of FIVB’s (Federation Internationale de Volleybal) events in Turkmenistan were discussed during the visit of senior Turkmen delegation to organization’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Sports and Youth Policy Minister of Turkmenistan Parahat Agayev, included the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Switzerland Atageldi Haljanov, and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Azat Myradov. They met with FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F, 2nd Executive Vice-President Aleksandar Boricic.
Turkmen sport officials expressed the interest of Turkmenistan in hosting volleyball and beach volleyball international and regional events as the sport is very popular in the country, has a strong fanbase.
Moreover, the country has good infrastructure and sports facilities. Turkmenistan has strong hosting credentials having most recently staged the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017 and the 2018 IWF World Championships.
-We have a number of junior and senior events that all our National Federations (NF) are invited to host and we welcome the NF of Turkmenistan to participate in the bidding process, said the FIVB President said during the meeting.
Moreover, he stressed the openness of FIVB for spreading volleyball in Central Asia.
The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) was founded in 1947 by 14 pioneer countries. Now the FIVB consists of 221 member federations and presides over five continental confederations. The FIVB's main activity is worldwide planning and organization of volleyball events, sometimes in conjunction with other international governing bodies such as the IOC. The FIVB participates directly in the organization of continental volleyball events which have an attached international significance, such as Olympic and World Championship continental qualification tournaments.
