Turkmen artists are staging the opera Aleko by Rachmaninov

The other day in Ashgabat, a concert by the class of Amangeldy Amanov, head of the Solo Singing Department of the Turkmen National Conservatory, was held. The students of the Conservatory took part in the creative evening. They performed works by Turkmen and foreign composers, including Ernesto de Curtis, Dmitry Kabalevsky, Alexander Varlamov, Durdy Nuryev, Nury Mukhatov. Selbi Bekiyeva and Bazarbay Djaparov, winners of Nury Halmammedov competition held this spring in honor of the 80th anniversary of the outstanding Turkmen composer, also performed at the concert. Amangeldy Amanov, having graduated from the Turkmen National Conservatory, worked in the theater, where, as he says, he learned a lot from his mentors, among whom Maya Kuliyeva, the People’s Artist of the USSR, People’s Artist of Turkmenistan, holder of the high title of Hero of Turkmenistan, who was called by world media “a singing Turkmen nightingale”. In recent years, Turkmen artists have staged works that have become modern Turkmen classics, such as “Shasenem and Garip” by Dangatar Ovezov and Adrian Shaposhnikov, “Leyli and Mejnun” by Dangatar Ovezov and Yuliy Meitus, “Zohra and Tahir” by Velimuhamed Muhadov and Adrian Shaposhnikov, “Makhtumkuli” by Juliy Meitus and others. In these operas, Amangeldy Amanov impersonated the roles of a number of key heroes, which, according to musical experts, were performed brilliantly. Recently, the teachers and students of the Turkmen National Conservatory have staged the concert versions of classical operas: Iolanta by P.I.Tchaikovsky, Kemine and Kazi by V.Muhadov and A.Shaposhnikov, Leili and Mejnun by D.Ovezov and Yu.Meitus. , “Ayna” by D. Ovezov, “Gorogly” by R. Redjepov. This year they are working with great pleasure and diligence on staging of the opera “Aleko” by S. Rachmaninov, written by him the libretto by Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko based on the poem “Gypsies” by Alexander Pushkin.
