Eradication of statelessness is the topic of a round table at the MFA of Turkmenistan
An online round table held at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan brought together representatives of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, the Mejlis (Parliament), the Supreme Court, as well as ministries, departments and the media of the country. The meeting participants discussed the national action plan for 2019-2024 to eradicate statelessness. Deputy Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Sakhy Imamberdiev emphasized the importance of eradicating statelessness and spoke about the objectives that his department has implemented to date. The online event participants discussed issues related to settling the existing large-scale crisis situations of statelessness in the world, providing the protection to stateless migrants and simplifying their naturalization. Jointly with international experts, the work results were assessed and plans for the next five years were discussed. The importance of ensuring birth registration in order to prevent statelessness, as well as detailed quantitative and qualitative data on stateless persons, was underscored.
