Turkmenistan has increased the export of vegetables since the beginning of this year by 2.1 times. Moreover, fresh tomatoes were more than half of this volume - 76%. This information is provided by the State Committee on Statistics, conducting comparative analysis with last year's indicators. In value terms, the growth is even higher – by 3 times. Export of vegetables and root crops was carried out, mainly, to Kazakhstan, Russia and for the first time to the UAE. New directions of export of plant products, although, to a lesser extent, are Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Along with the increase in exports of Turkmen vegetables, especially tomatoes, in the import of vegetables the main share is for potatoes (more than 60%), although the physical volumes of its supplies have somewhat decreased. The main partner for importing vegetables to the country is Iran. Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Turkey have the following positions by volume. The mass harvesting of food crops of continuous cultivation has already been completed in all the farms of Turkmenistan. In general, for the ten months of 2017, the increase by January-October 2016 was 3.4%. The growth is provided by an increase in the mechanization of work and the competent zoning of crops. For example, in Balkan velayat, where cotton is not profitable for local soils for the crop rotation, the production of vegetables grew by 22%. According to the State Statistics Committee, as of November 1, 2017, 18.3 thousand tons of sugar beets were harvested in the farms of Mary and Balkan velayats, and 49.7 thousand tons of rice in the Dashoguz and Lebap regions.
