Ashgabat hosted a seminar on the UNESCO Creative Cities Network project

The first online seminar was held at the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan on the inclusion in 2021 of Ashgabat (“Design”) and Turkmenabat (“Craft and Folk Art”) in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The training brought together representatives of departments of the Ministry of Culture, municipal institutions and the media, who got acquainted with the conditions and key factors for preparing and submitting an application, discussed the role of this project in sustainable development of creative activities and culture. - Currently, the Network, created in 2004, unites 246 cities around the world. Their development is based on creative activities, whether it is music, crafts and folklore, design, cinematography, literature, media art or gastronomy, UNESCO representative Denise Bucks said. UNESCO creative cities aim to make culture and art the main principle in their development plans and share best practices in this area. - By joining the Network, the cities collaborate and strengthen partnerships to stimulate creative industries, study successful experiences and integrate culture into economic and social development strategies, Bucks added.
