Russia will launch the Luna-25 interplanetary station in 2021
The launch of the Luna-25 automatic interplanetary station (AIS) to the Earth satellite is planned for the fall of next year, reports Roscosmos.
“Currently, the design and experimental work of Luna-Glob, in the framework of which the Luna-25 spacecraft is being created, is at the stage of ground-based development testing of experimental products,” said the state corporation.
According to it, the launch of the station is scheduled for October 1 next year. It is noted that the creation of the device and all tests should be completed in summer of 2021.
According to Roscosmos, a mandatory item in the creation of spacecraft is the conduct of electrical and functional tests necessary to confirm the specified characteristics of all components. Tests of the assembled device will begin in the first quarter of 2021, said the corporation.
As part of the mission, the lander will be launched first, and the orbiter will be launched a year later. The goal of this project is to launch a robot explorer, the orbital part of which should carry out remote sensing survey and select suitable sites for subsequent lander, and the lander will explore the surface in the area of the South Pole, including cryogenic drilling to a depth of two meters.
The declared active operating term of the explorer on the surface of the moon is not less than one earth year.
