Turkmenistan to host a felting fest

Starting from July 7, a phased felting contest “Gülüň owadan” will take place in the country. The competition, organized by the Women's Union of Turkmenistan and the Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan, will be attended by craftswomen from all regions of the country. The task of the contest is to talk about koshma as an original folk art. For 5 minutes, the craftswomen will demonstrate the technique of making the koshma and, the special rituals that accompany this process. In the second stage of the competition in 20-25 minutes participants will need to lay out one of the old patterns - “Ak tüýnük”, “Gyzyl tüýnük”, “Gozenek”, “Saýlan”, “Barmak” or another. And then the craftswomen will have the opportunity to show off their new patterns in 5 minutes, tell about their history, tell an interesting legend related to the pattern, sing a song that women traditionally sang while working on embroidery, making a koshma or carpet. The craftswomen who passed the regional selection will be admitted to the finals. Also, participants of the competition will be awarded valuable prizes and memorable gifts.
