Turkmenistan is ready to consider the possibility of leasing out the terminals and warehouses of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport to Afghanistan and Azerbaijan on a long-term basis. This was announced on Thursday by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at an online meeting with Ashraf Ghani and Ilham Aliyev, TDH State News Agency reported. Long-term lease of coastal infrastructure facilities at the port will allow the neighboring countries to simplify and reduce the cost of cargo transit, and Turkmenistan to make a fuller use of its transport system potential. In addition, Turkmenistan is ready to provide partners with special places for transshipment of goods. This should accelerate trade turnover within the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor connecting Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The Turkmenbashy International Seaport is an important transit point for the Lapis Lazuli corridor. By using it at full capacity, Turkmenistan intends to intensify trade turnover, consequently making exported goods in the Asian and European regions cheaper for consumers.
