Ashgabat forum statement adopted as document of UN General Assembly
The joint statement of the International Forum on Financing the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), initiated by Turkmenistan in Ashgabat at the end of May of this year, was adopted as a document of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. The document is published in the six official languages of the UN (world languages) and distributed among member countries of the Community of Nations. Observers regard this event as an increase in the international prestige of Turkmenistan and a confirmation of the effectiveness of the policy of Turkmen neutrality. The experts believe that this document creates certain opportunities for practical solution of issues of financing countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are a set of interconnected goals for international cooperation, replacing the Millennium Development Goals that were fulfilled in the 20th century in 2015 and which were predicted to be achieved by 2030. In essence, the Sustainable Development Goals are a call from the world community to action addressed to all of humanity. This is a 15-year plan aimed at protecting our planet from destruction and improving the well-being of all the inhabitants of the Earth, including its poorest layers.
