Turkmenistan - EU: many joint plans and common goals

The regular, 19th meeting of the Turkmenistan-European Union Joint Committee in an online format brought together representatives of Turkmenistan and the European Union. The agenda of the meeting included issues of business and economic relations, as well as political and humanitarian dialogue, a separate topic was the impact of the new type of coronavirus pandemic on the macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan and EU countries. In his speech, the Minister of Finance and Economics of Turkmenistan, the National Coordinator of International Technical Assistance to the European Union from Turkmenistan, Ezizgeldy Annamuhammedov, focused on the expansion and strengthening of traditional ties in various economic areas. It was also about the need to increase mutually beneficial investment, trade and economic relations. He also touched on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the macroeconomic situation in the country. According to the Minister, no cases of virus infection have been recorded in Turkmenistan, no foci of the spread of the disease have been identified and, moreover, the economy remains stable. The Deputy Managing Director for Europe, Central Asia, Eastern Partnership, Russia, Regional Cooperation and the OSCE in the European External Relations Service, Luc Devin, who participated in the meeting via video link, noted that such a constructive dialogue will continue to have a positive effect, especially in business and economic activity. During the online forum, issues in the field of energy, transport and digitalization, agriculture, ecology, professional training, cooperation in science and technology, as well as matters of education and health were analyzed. The online meeting has become an important platform for the exchange of experience between the European Union and Turkmenistan, for the development and implementation of joint programs and projects in various fields.
