Poem of Berdimuhamedov inspired by Bernes’s famous song “Cranes” is published

A poem written by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, dedicated to the memory of soldiers who have not returned from the war, was published by the Turkmenistan Today state-run the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH).
The poem is called “The Line about the Song “Cranes”, the most famous song performed by M.Bernes, the lyrics by R.Gamzatov and the music composed by Y.Frenkel. All these names are mentioned in the poem of Berdimuhamedov.
The TDH website also provides a photograph of the author’s manuscript, which says: “On the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945,” and a beauty picture depicting cranes.
This wonderful picture is painted by the granddaughter of the President of Turkmenistan – Ogulbyabek Berdimuhamedova. And here is the poem:
A word about the «Cranes»
In the memory of those, who did not return from the battlefield
Sometimes It seems to me I sing these verses
As if Bernes himself was by my side.
The hymn to how diverse the universe is -
A worthy sacrifice to give my life.
For wonders of the world our love acclaimed,
Our right is to live up to our neutrality.
And even though I am unknown, I am unnamed,
Perhaps, this is what gives me immortality
We all are destined to reach to the heights
That we desire and dream of in our lives.
Our people are accustomed to live out their days
Whirled in the sunny days and peaceful nights.
I truly love to watch the cranes delightfully
When they fly over pensive evening sky.
The days flow by, life taking its toll rightfully
Yet, our awaited soldiers never die!
Indeed, the days of memory will never fade
They call to us up from skies with eagerness.
Along with soldiers, leaving in a regiment
With Frenkel, with Gamzatov, with Bernes.
Gurbanguly BERDIMUHAMEDOV
