Do good: charity book action saves lives
A team of young Ashgabat altruists came up with a charity event "Book in exchange for life." To do good deeds, you do not need special education or great opportunities. Goodness begins with an act - the essence of a book charity event is that by selling a variety of literature at a symbolic price, the guys encourage each buyer to become part of the good.
The charity event - “Book in exchange for life” has existed for three years. During this time, the organizers managed to help many children, those who are in dire need of material support. Help is always targeted and has real positive results. This is not to say that the team works under the direction of one manager, it is a well-coordinated team of like-minded people united by one goal - to do good.
“We have been doing charity work for a long time, and always these were different directions,” says Anna Sultanova, one of the organizers of the action. - Somehow, our comrade-in-arms Anastasia Bernovskaya visited the charity festival and returned from there with many ideas. Having discussed the concept of how we can help people in our country and at the same time benefit not only those whom we help, but also those who help us, we decided that these would be books.
We decided and did not fail. The book is a storehouse of knowledge; in a charity event it becomes a symbol of saving a child’s life. The guys, sparing no time and effort, collect literature throughout the city. Anyone can contact them by phone or on a social network and donate books as a gift. They all go to a good cause - helping people.
Sorting books by genre, the ideological team wraps them in kraft paper. The name of the book hidden under the opaque packaging remains a mystery to the future reader. But in order not to completely deprive the potential buyer of the right to choose, a clue is glued from the edge about which genre this publication belongs to, be it classics, detective stories, educational literature, etc.
In early June, the action was timed to coincide with the International Children's Day, but good deeds are performed not only on holidays. A team of altruists can be found both at the “Fair of Masters” and in a bookstore, where by purchasing a book, anyone contributes to saving someone’s life.
“After the event, we count the proceeds,” Anna continues. - And we distribute them in the order of priority importance. Some do not have enough for an urgent and expensive operation, others - for a flight to another country, where they are promised cure. Recently, we allocated financial assistance for the treatment of a paralyzed boy, helped with the purchase of basic necessities for him. We are all wealthy adults and we are engaged in charity, without being indifferent to the grief of others.
Even our peers seek to help sick children. Students are happy to acquire educational literature for themselves and for their friends, spending accumulated pocket money on the "saving" books.
Good has the property of a boomerang, it always returns. Today you helped someone, and tomorrow someone helps you. Buying or giving a book as a gift, every second becomes a part of the big world, where man is man to brother.
