Foreign tourists in Uzbekistan will receive compensation of $3 thousand in case of infection with COVID-19
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Decree “On additional measures for development of the tourism sector in strict compliance with the requirements of the enhanced sanitary and epidemiological safety procedures”, Uzreport News Agency reported.
The document introduces the system of sanitary and epidemiological safety “Uzbekistan. Safe travel guaranteed”. It is designed to become a kind of “airbag” for foreign tourists.
The essence of this system is that if a foreign tourist is infected with the coronavirus infection in Uzbekistan, he will receive $3000 in compensation. The Agency notes that this practice is widely used in many countries of the world.
Funds for the payment of insurance to foreign tourists will be provided by the Foundation for Safe Tourism. In turn, contributions to this foundation will be generated from the Anti-Crisis Fund in the amount of 20 billion soms (about $2 million), as well as through certification fees from tour operators, hotels and other institutions working in the tourism industry. This certificate will be a permit to work in the tourist sector.
As was reported by the media with reference to Chairman of the National Chamber of Innovative Healthcare Ravshan Izamov, during the quarantine period, only those tour operators and tourist infrastructure facilities will have the right to receive foreign tours that will be included in the register “Uzbekistan. Safe travel guaranteed”.
This is very bold experience worthy of being studied. Although coronavirus is extremely dangerous, tourism is also very important for development of the economy of Uzbekistan. The economic situation in the world does not allow waiting for the development of a vaccine. Some experts believe that humanity will have to live next to the coronavirus for some time (maybe not short).
