Gastarbeiters with diplomas: a number of certified specialists grows in the market of foreign labor in Turkmenistan
Labor migration plays a huge role in the economy of many countries. It is viewed as a complex social process affecting many aspects of social and economic life. Turkmenistan as a participant in international processes is no exception.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, in the first half of 2017, 310 employers in Turkmenistan received a permit for temporary employment of foreign personnel of 10,015 people.
This is 37.2% less than for the same period in 2016. The bulk of foreign workers who received a temporary work permit in January-June 2017 arrived in Turkmenistan from Turkey (49%), China (11.7%), India (8.0%), and the Philippines (7.9% ).
Analysts of the labor market in Turkmenistan note a tendency of increase of the proportion of graduates in the number of foreign workers invited. In January-June, 2017, the share of invited specialists was 40.9% compared to 36.5% in the same period in 2016.
The share of invited workers for temporary work decreased from 62.5% in January-June 2016 to 56.5% in the corresponding period of 2017.
In January-June, 2017, the largest proportion of foreign labor, which was confirmed for temporary work, was concentrated in construction (69.4%), which is actively ongoing in all regions of Turkmenistan.
