CIS Ministerial Council: Turkmenistan proposed contrasting pandemics with scientific diplomacy


Turkmenistan in connection with the threat of a pandemic proposed the CIS to establish contacts between medical scientists and practicing doctors through scientific diplomacy, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
Such a proposal made by Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov from Ashgabat at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS, held in the form of a video conference was.
The heads of the diplomatic missions of the countries of the Commonwealth discussed joint efforts in countering the pandemic and noted the need to establish effective cooperation mechanisms. In this regard, Rashid Meredov proposed to consider establishing contacts between medical communities, emphasizing that this approach to “systematic work at professional level” was initiated by the President of Turkmenistan during the recent summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed a number of important issues of interaction between the countries of the Commonwealth in view of the epidemiological situation in the world. An exchange of views took place on key aspects of the regional and global agenda, including ensuring peace and security, countering modern threats and challenges, biological and environmental safety.
The parties paid special attention to the consideration of the legal framework for cooperation, including the coordination of the positions of the CIS countries within international organizations, mainly in the UN, OSCE, SCO, as well as with EU states.
As a result of the meeting, a number of documents were signed, including decisions “On the Plan of multilevel inter-MFA consultations within the CIS for 2019 and on the Plan for 2020”, “On the Strategy for the Development of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the Field of Physical Culture and Sports for 2021–2030" and "On the implementation in 2022 of the Interstate program "Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth."
