Only Ashgabat and Minsk have hosted this year the military parade to commemorate the Victory Day. However, these celebrations expressed the solidarity of all the peoples of the post-Soviet countries and the memory of the common feat and heroes. “Even the idea of changing the traditions that have been glorifying the history of the Great Feat of Victors for 75 years already is unacceptable for us”, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said, taking a military parade in Minsk on May 9, BELTA informs. “But there will be people in this distraught, disoriented world, condemning us for the place and time of this sacred action. I want to tell them humanly: do not rush to draw conclusions, and even more condemn us, Belarusians, descendants of the Victors. We simply could not do otherwise, we had no other choice, and even if we had, we would have done the same, because the eyes of Soviet soldiers who died for our freedom, the eyes of partisans and guerilla fighters tortured in the Gestapo prisons, the eyes of old people, women and children of Khatyn look at us. They really wanted to live, but they died so that we can live”. Alexander Lukashenko highlighted that modern Belarus is a monument to that terrible war, those killed, tortured and burned. “Today we honor the feat of our fathers and grandfathers. Their path to victory was full of the tears of mothers, wives and children, soaked in the blood of fallen comrades and civilians, covered in ashes of villages burned by the enemy. We admire the feat of the Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Jews, Tatars, Kazakhs, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz and Turkmens, Georgians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Moldovans, Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians, all residents of the Soviet Union, fighters of the European Resistance movement, our allies: the United States, Great Britain and China. Their courage, bravery and willingness to die for the Homeland became a terrible weapon of retaliation for the Nazi executioners and their satellites”, the Belarus leader said. He emphasized that history taught a lesson to the followers of Nazi ideology, the invaders with exorbitant geopolitical ambitions. Its meaning is simple and fair - the people who defend their native country, their lands and the future of their children are invincible. “We are forever bound by blood ties with the fraternal peoples, jointly with whom our fathers and grandfathers stopped the twentieth-century catastrophe”, Alexander Lukashenko said.
