In Georgia they plan to create «green zones», protected from the coronavirus for tourists

Georgia plans to receive tourists in «green zones» where infection cases of coronavirus have not been confirmed. Head of the National Administration of Tourism Mariam Kvrivishvili informed on it at the briefing, as the Georgian news portal newsgeorgia.ge. reports. The government of Georgia has presented an anti-crisis plan on start of tourism sphere the work of which has completely stopped for two months because of the pandemic. It is expected that from June 15 the inland tourism will open, and from July 1 Georgia will start to receive travellers from abroad. «As to so-called green zones, it is a separate project, the concept of which is to make additional accents on zones all over the country which are completely protected from COVID-19. Such experience is available already in majority of our hotels. It offers concrete advantages at the international levels», - Kvrivishvili told at the briefing after the plan’s presentation. She noted that Adjara can become one of the first «green zones». The coronavirus epidemic has not touched high-mountainous municipalities of the region. The head of tourist department also has reminded that hotels of Adjara have been allocated under quarantine zones. Kvrivishvili considers that it has helped them to introduce serious standards of safety which can guarantee to travellers that they are not subject to risk of being infected during their recreation. The authorities of Georgia promise to open tourism taking into account safety measures over which the Ministry of Health together with the World Tourist Organisation of the United Nations already works. «Safety will be for us the main condition. Georgia - one of the first countries in the world which told that it will open the tourist industry within a very short period … it is important, that hotels or food catering facilities, guides and travel agencies answered the established international criteria of safety. Accordingly, all resorts or hotels which will answer norms, will be active in tourism services», - she stated. Kvrivishvili added that in the near future the authorities will start to put in order the infrastructure of both mountain and sea resorts. At the first stage resorts will receive only internal tourists, and then foreigners. Due to the pandemic in Georgia, the state of emergency was extended to May 22. Besides it, a curfew is in effect from 21:00 to 06.00. From March 18, Georgia closed its borders for foreigners, and from March 21, it cancelled the all flight services.
