CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting to be held May 12 online


The meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held May 12 under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan using video conferencing, according to the website of the CIS Executive Committee. At the meeting, it is planned to approve a plan of multilevel inter-MFA consultations within the CIS for 2020. The draft plan includes topics related to the coordination of the positions of the Commonwealth states within the framework of UN membership, interaction with other international organizations, the information sphere, counteraction to new challenges and threats, the theme of disarmament, as well as foreign policy planning and arms control, the report says. It is also planned to consider the strategy of international youth cooperation of the CIS member states for 2021-2030, a draft strategy for the development of cooperation between the CIS countries in the tourism sector for 2021-2030 and a similar cooperation project in the field of physical education. The report notes that the Russian Federation proposed to add to the draft agenda of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers an additional issue on the Joint Statement by the Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Commonwealth on strengthening the role of international law.
