From 27 to 28 October the capital of Turkmenistan hosted a Cup in athletics among men and women. The tournament featured 35 sports, including hammer throwing, long jumps, shot put, hurdling, distance running, and others. Irina Velikhanova became the triumphant of the Cup, as well as the winner in three nominations (shot put, 100 m run with barriers and in the long jump). Another gold medalists of the Cup is Mergen Mammedov (hammer throwing), Maksat Mammedov (disc throwing), Jennet Mukamova (spear), Guvanch Matdaganov (100 m run), Alisher Sadullaev (200 m run), Serdar Orazov (400 m run). The winner was also Valentina Meredova, the owner of the national record in the 60m race. She won in two categories at once - in the 100 and 200 meters race. Valentina followed in the footsteps of her mother and at the age of 13 began to engage in athletics. The first competitions for it were the Central Asian Games, which were held in 2003 in Dushanbe. In 2008, Valentina Meredova took the third place in Almaty at the International Tournament “Memorial of Gusman Khasanov” and became the record holder of the country in the 100 meters race.
In 2017, at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in the 4x400 relay, Valentina won the bronze medal again. And in February 2018 at the VIII Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Tehran repeated this achievement.
Now Valentina Meredova, who participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, is preparing for her second Olympics in Tokyo and is developing her coaching job.
