WHO confirmed that Turkmenistan has taken serious measures to protect its territory from COVID-19

Turkmenistan has taken very serious measures for the sanitary protection of its territory and, like other countries, takes a thorough approach to this problem, RIA Novosti said on Sunday, quoting the head of the WHO office in Turkmenistan Paulina Karvowska. She noted that from the first reports of a new virus, Ashgabat began work by making decisions at the highest level to prevent infection from entering the country. The government and the relevant services continue this work, together with the UN structures, and preparedness and response plan for the case of COVID-19 has been developed. Karvovska talked about visiting quarantine institutions in the cities of Turkmenabat and Turkmenbashi. “These centers can play an important role in quickly treating and isolating people with this disease, thereby limiting further spread,” she said. When asked about how the WHO office in Ashgabat assesses the situation in the country with COVID-19, Karvovska replied that she relied on the health authorities of Turkmenistan who did not report confirmed cases: “up to this point we have not been notified of such cases.” According to official data, cases of a new type of coronavirus in Turkmenistan have not been recorded.
