New sports trend in the Turkmen capital

Nowadays, cycling is very popular in Turkmenistan. A new page in the history of the national cycling has been opened with the construction of the first in Turkmenistan indoor velodrome in the Ashgabat Olympic Village. The specialists of the International Cycling Association highly evaluated the quality of the new facility, expressing the interest in organizing the UCI World Championships in Turkmenistan. Besides, the number of cycling fans increases with every passing day, and the most active ones are united into informal communities. One of them is the VeloMania Ashgabat Club. According to the Manager of the club – Shohrat Shazhikov, everything started with the idea to make a mass cycle ride. Once the idea was successfully implemented, the “Ashgabat bike club” community, offering a bike rental service, was established. Sponsors helped the community with purchasing bicycles and renting the office, and in the course of time, the community turned into the VeloMania Club. The name is trendy: the boyish privilege of riding bikes turned into a fashionable trend among the residents of the Turkmen capital. The leader of the Turkmen state, who proclaimed the healthy life-style the elements of good style, gave a personal example travelling by bicycle to the event venues on these days, and the government officials started following him. The President’s initiative was widely supported in our society. It is stylish to bike to work rather than drive a car. Being on the top of the wave, the VeloMania Club offers such service as cycling training, organization of team cycling tours, bike rental and maintenance. Bike rental is the most popular one, especially during summer evenings. New rental offices were opened near the Ashgabat Hotel and the Ashgabat Stadium recently. There are plans for further development. Every day many people request assistance of bike servicemen to fix their bicycles. Considering the growing demand, the Club also makes a reservation for bicycles. Dozens of bicycles have been already booked for July 29, which President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced as Cycling Day. The clients of the club are the people, willing to improve their health, lose some weight, relieve stress, as well as those, who want to have some fun with their family or friends and get positive emotions.
