Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan met with UN representatives


On Monday, Vice-Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with representatives of the United Nations and its entities working in the country.
These included UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia German, UNICEF Representative Christina Weigand, WHO Representative Paulina Karwowska and others.
The meeting focused on the basic topics of the recent telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The Foreign Minister commented on some issues addressed by the Turkmen Leader and the UN Secretary General, in particular, related to development of the social and economic situation in the world in the context of the coronavirus pandemic and joint response. Thus, the Turkmen party is ready to provide its experience and opportunities for solving common problems, and is working on the preparation of a relevant National Plan under the auspices of the UN.
In this regard, the Minister emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation with all UN entities. Representatives of the Organization in Ashgabat highly evaluated the actions of the Government of Turkmenistan, noting the country’s openness to cooperation and its commitment to establishing international mechanisms in the fields of health, food security, and transport.
Turkmenistan, as an active party to the UN, is committed to further comprehensive cooperation with international partners in order to find effective solutions and approaches in the fight against the challenges and threats of present time, the meeting stated.
