The meeting of the International Association of Ahal-Teke horse breeding was held in Ashgabat. The 10th anniversary forum was held by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as the chairman of the Association, which turned 10 this year. At the meeting, ways of developing the Ahal-Teke horse breeding and its sports direction at the national level and in the world were discussed. New members were also accepted into the Association, which at that time united 155 legal entities and individuals from 34 countries. Berdimuhamedov noted the contribution of foreign members of the association: “They did a lot for the development of horse breeding, which had a positive effect on the growth of the number of Ahal-Teke horses and the number of their connoisseurs in the world.” Turkmenistan is also actively involved in this area: sectoral infrastructure is expanding and modernizing, a system of personnel training and scientific support has been created and developed. According to the president, the state allocated 680 million US dollars to improve the social conditions of the Turkmen horse breeders. We will continue to carry out this work, Berdimu-hamedov said. In this context, the head of state mentioned the International Higher School of Horse Breeding being built in the new administrative center of Ahal in combination with a specialized research and production center. At the meeting, the president signed decrees on awarding, on the occasion of the Turkmen horse's national holiday, the most distinguished horse breeders of the country with state awards and assigning the honorary title “Honored Horse Breeder of Turkmenistan” to active foreign members of the International Ahal-Teke Horse Breeding Association. Foreign members of the Association, including from Germany, Hungary, Romania and Bahrain, also made video calls. The next XI meeting of the International Association of Ahal-Teke horse breeding was decided to be held in Ashgabat a year later, in April 2021.
