Caspian Sea in Eurasian Trade: Turkmen and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers for New Approaches


Cooperation in the transport and communications sector was discussed in a telephone conversation between the chief diplomats of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Foreign Ministers Rashid Meredov and Elmar Mamedyarov noted that direct sea links between the Caspian ports of Turkmenbashy and Alyat are the most important segment of trade and economic relations on the Eurasian continent. This is stated in a media report publicized by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry. As follows from the message, diplomats appreciated the effectiveness of cooperation in the field of transport and spoke in favor of finding new forms of partnership to ensure the stable operation of transport corridors along the East-West line. The Ministers also discussed the implementation of bilateral agreements reached between Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Ilham Aliyev during the official visit of the Turkmen leader to Baku on March 11 this year.
