Music and songs have united for a long time people. For example, about famous Turkmen musician Shukur-baghshi there are a number of legends. They are connected with real history how he with his masterly play on the dutar stopped bloodshed and got out of captivity his brother. This history has made up a basis of the film by Bulat Mansurov "Competition".
How the film crew surprised when, selecting heroes for the film took place, they managed to get acquainted with a disciple of Shukur-baghshi. The character of the musician was perceived more likely not as real, but folklore, so it has acquired legends. Shukur-baghshi was imagined by contemporaries like the character from national epic , and here is his live disciple!
The disciple was called as Hojan aga, he lived not far from Ashgabat. Hospitably having met the film crew, Hojan told about the meeting with the legendary musician.
Wandering in Turan, Shukur-baghshi stayed for a night in the family of Hojan whose father was on friendly terms with the musician and accepted him as his brother. Shukur-aga, in turn, pleased us with songs. With ecstasy listening to it, small Hojan and he himself wanted to play the dutar and Shukur-baghshi began to teach the boy, who showed high hopes.
Among eminent baghshis there is a custom - to hand his instrument as gift to young musicians in whom they see their possible successor. Shukur-baghshi somehow presented one of his dutars to Hojan. An expensive gift has been kept by the family of Hojan for many years, and the impressed film crew invited the disciple of Shukur to act in the film under preparation.
Hojan Ovezgelenov played in the film as opponent of Shukur in a musical contest - Gulam-baghshi who nevertheless recognises the superiority of his vis-a-vis and own defeat.
And after shootings Hojan aga handed the invaluable dutar as keepsake to the director of the film Bulat Mansurov. Soon the director left Turkmenistan, and the dutar travelled with him different cities and countries, reminding the new owner of the sunny land and his talents.
