Realization of the USA - Taliban peace treaty was discussed in Qatar


Suhail Shaheen, a spokesman for the Taliban's political office in Qatar informed that a Taliban delegation led by Mullah Baradar, deputy chief of the group and head of its political office met with U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and General Scott Miller, the top U.S. commander and the NATO in Afghanistan, as the Anadolu news agency informs. Realisation of the peace agreement, including, release of the prisoners and persons detained were discussed. The U.S. Special Representative urged to accelerate exchange of the captured and prisoners in Afghanistan. According to the agreement reached following the results of two-year negotiations between Washington and the Taliban, the USA and their allies have agreed to remove the armies from Afghanistan till April, 2021 in case of fulfilment of obligations by the Taliban. And five thousand from approximately 14 thousand American military men will leave Afghanistan till May of the current year. Till March 10 five thousand Taliban inmates in return for 1000 captives of supporters of the Afghani government from prisons should be released. In turn Washington will use the best efforts for cancellation sanctions against leaders of the Taliban by the UN Security Council till August. The USA and their allies will not threaten the territorial integrity and independence of Afghanistan, will not interfere with the country’s internal affairs. From its part the Taliban will not allow other organisations to use the Afghani territory as base for attacks to the USA and their supporters. According to the Pentagon, in 2001-2019 only for military operations in Afghanistan it spent 975 billion dollars, and taking into account expenses for infrastructure this figure made up one trillion dollars. For this period the USA lost its 2400 military men in Afghanistan. President Ashraf Ghani as a condition for release of the Taliban from prisons named the transfer of the headquarters of the Taliban from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Thus, the parties did not do any statements concerning participation of the Taliban in the management of the country.
