Non-contact cargo transportation starts between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku


Continuing to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the ports of Baku and Turkmenbashi starts non-contact cargo transportation. The subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, ADY Container, has launched the implementation of the project by the operation of the feeder vessel Balkan, Day.Az, reports.
To ensure continuous cargo transportation, the vessel Balkan with a capacity of 120 TEU will transport container cargoes from Turkey to Central Asia through Azerbaijan, Director of ADY Container Natig Jafarov told reporters.
“A feeder vessel, intended for cargo transportation through Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, would operate once a week. If the volume of cargo increases, then the vessel can be used twice a week. Along with ADY Container, the process is supported by the International Port of Baku and the logistics center of Turkey," Natig Jafarov said.
“For now, the use of feeder vessels is considered a measure to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on the freight sector. As the containerization process continues, utilization of the vessels will be systematic,” the director added.
Speaking during the Summit of the Turkic Council held in a format of videoconference, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized, that taking into account pandemic crisis, it was necessary to ensure the stable trade and economic relations, transport links between the states.
“In close cooperation with our partners, primarily with neighboring states, Turkmenistan carries out the work to ensure that these relations are regular, in order to maintain reliable schemes of mutual deliveries and transit traffic”, te head of state underlined.
In this context, it was noted that due to the coordinated efforts, the ferry service across the Caspian Sea between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku continued to operate, which is the most important transport artery providing freight flows in the vast geo-economic space.
