By a resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office at Geneva Atageldi Haljanov was appointed as Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UNON Office at Nairobi (Republic of Kenya), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), with residence in Geneva. This appointment was discussed at a meeting of the Turkmen government via video link last Friday. As it was noted at the meeting, one of the main vectors of cooperation between Ashgabat and the UN and its structures is interaction on climate change, environmental protection, rational nature management and maintenance of ecological safety. It was also emphasized that in order to intensify contacts in this direction, it is essential to further develop cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
