Turkmenistan’s participation in WTO will be discussed in Ashgabat on April 15


On April 15, 2020, Ashgabat will host a regular meeting of the Special Government Commission for Turkmenistan’s entry into the World Trade Organization. Turkmenistan recognizes the importance of the process of trade liberalization and coordination of its trade policy with trade policies of the countries in the region for closer integration into the global economic space, and it is open to any institutional innovations in the field of trade facilitation. The country participates in consultations and meetings which are held by international financial and economic organizations regarding the WTO as well as monitors the international goods market. Considering the characteristics and specifics of socio-economic transformation of market relations, Turkmenistan is actively studying the issue of joining the WTO. That was the reason for establishing the Special Government Commission, the duty of which includes studying the agreements and rules of the World Trade Organization, analyzing the effect of the country’s entry into WTO on various sectors of the national economy, and preparing relevant proposals. During the regular meeting of this commission scheduled for April 15, the issue of Turkmenistan’s participation in the WTO in the capacity of observer at the initial stage will be discussed. According to experts, this step will contribute to improving the country’s economic rating in the international market.
