Experts of water management of the countries of Central Asia held a video session of IFAS Interstate Coordination Water Management Commission


Experts of water economic branches of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan held the next, 78th meeting of the Interstate coordination commission of the Interstate Coordination Water Management Commission (ICWC) of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea on the online platform. The Turkmen delegation at this meeting in a video format was headed by Chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan Annageldi Yazmyradov.
Among the main topics of the meeting were discussion of realisation of proposals and initiatives of presidents of the countries of Central Asia concerning improvement of ecological, water economic and social and economic conditions in the Aral Sea basin.
From the Turkmen side opinions on ways of advancement of water diplomacy as effective tool in multilateral political and diplomatic relations were also sounded. The issue of availability of water resources, their rational management with development of the states and economy, social sphere, with quality of life of people, level of their well-being was also touched upon.
Turkmenistan has confirmed again the position that water and energy issues in the region should be solved on the basis of the conventional norms of international law, taking into account interests of each of the countries of Central Asia and with an active participation of the international organisations, first of all, the United Nations.
At the meeting, the final reports of the heads of the regional water associations “Syr Darya” and “Amu Darya” on the results of using water limits for the growing season 2019-2020 were also heard in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya river basins. The results of negotiations also approved the volumes of water withdrawals from Central Asian countries and the predicted mode of operation of cascades of reservoirs in the basins of these rivers for the growing season of 2020.
Delegates listened to the report of the scientific-information centre of the Interstate Coordination Water Group of IFAS on key problems of the plan for improvement of social status of people living in the Aral Sea basin, strengthening of cooperation of the states of Central Asia in the solution of ecological, social and economic problems, and adaptation to climate change.
Within the limits of the meeting the presentation of results of projects of rational use of water resources in the ecological aspect by the countries of the region took place.
