Carpet - a common heritage and a symbol of good neighborliness

The inclusion of traditional Turkmen carpet making art in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was covered by news agencies of many countries. ArmInfo agency was also interested in this fact and decided to share the art of Turkmen carpet making with its readers, emphasizing in its publication the role of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in preserving the original cultural heritage of Turkmen people.
ArmInfo also draws a parallel between Turkmenistan and Armenia as one of the oldest centers of carpet weaving, which continues to develop at present time under government support.
In this context, the agency recalled the meeting of the leaders of two friendly states that took place during the working visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia to Ashgabat, the agenda of which, among trade and economic topics, included discussion of the issues related to the cultural and humanitarian sphere. The sides expressed common opinion on the importance of promotion of fruitful dialogue in the humanitarian activities, including healthcare, education, sports and tourism.
In addition, ArmInfo recalled that in the framework of the Days of Culture of Armenia in Turkmenistan held in the autumn of 2019, the program of presentation included acquaintance with the culture and traditions of the Armenian people in addition to the exhibition of musical, choral, fine arts and painting of Armenian masters. The State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan hosted a master class on folk and applied arts of Armenia. Students of the Turkmen arts academy got acquainted with the carpet-making secrets of Armenian craftswomen, the semantic meaning of ornaments and pointed out the common traditions of carpet weaving.
“We can say with certainty that folk craft – carpet weaving is another common cultural heritage, each with its own national identity that confirms centuries-old Turkmen-Armenian friendship and good neighborliness,” ArmInfo reads.
