Expert opinion: why did China manage to quickly overcome the coronavirus?
The expert believes that the country managed to cope with the epidemic of coronavirus thanks to trust between the Chinese authorities and the population. This point of view is shared by Sinologist Alexei Maslov.
“The most important thing is a stable mutual trust between the government and the people. This does not speak about the advantages of a political or social system, trust can be in a country with any state system - it shows how precisely the central and regional authorities kept their promises before the outbreak,” Maslov said, speaking to the Parliamentary newspaper.
According to him, China has been earning a credit of trust of its population for forty years. The expert is sure that the system successfully overcame this “stress test”: officials went to hospitals to infected people, walked along the streets in masks, showed citizens how to behave properly during an epidemic - and people believed them.
Another important factor, according to Maslov, was the maximum computerization of processes and transparency of information. The State Bureau of Health, regional bureaus and all major hospitals daily published live data on the number of patients in medical facilities, on how many people recovered and how many died.
In addition, medical databases were also involved - everyone could find out the fate of a relative who, for example, went to another province. The telemedicine system was also active, the analyst emphasized.
“In this regard, it should be borne in mind that China in terms of computerization and digitalization is decades ahead in comparison with many other countries,” Maslov emphasized. In addition, Beijing was able to quickly deal with fakes about the spread of infection. All of these measures have helped the country quickly stop the epidemic.
