The expert noted the appropriateness of a new cargo transportation procedure in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan’s expert analyst Valery Chumakin commented to the Voice of the CIS online radio regarding decisions of the transport and logistics center of Turkmenistan to introduce temporary restrictions on the transportation of goods by foreign carriers within the country. He noted the appropriateness of the measures taken. Starting from March 24, in the territory of Turkmenistan, the transportation of foreign goods arriving at the customs points of Garabogaz, Farap and the international sea port of Turkmenbashi will be carried out by local carriers. After loading Turkmen trucks with appropriate cargo in the border zone, foreign drivers and vehicles will have to leave Turkmenistan. The corresponding process of the transfer of goods, including transit goods, will occur in specially prepared places. - Similar decisions are made by a number of states in order to protect citizens from the risks of coronavirus disease. I believe that the introduction of these measures by Turkmenistan is absolutely justified and appropriate, ”Chumakin said. It was emphasized that Turkey closed customs posts for both passengers and goods from Iran. Kazakhstan passes carriers only if the driver is replaced in compliance with quarantine and sanitary-epidemiological standards. - In many states, the carriers concerned must undergo a special medical examination to check for symptoms of COVID-19 virus infection. And this directly affects the time of delivery of the goods to their destination. The new procedure for transporting foreign baggage on the territory of Turkmenistan simplifies this process and facilitates more efficient transportation of foreign goods across the country under current conditions, the expert noted. Despite the restrictions introduced, rail freight is actively carried out in Turkmenistan. The decrease in passenger traffic accelerated the process of transporting goods in this direction.
