Tokyo Olympics postponed for a year
The Summer Olympic Games in Japan were rescheduled for the summer of 2021. This was stated by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, reports CNN. The games were scheduled for the period from July 24 to August 9. The decision has been discussed before - because of the global coronavirus pandemic. The option was considered that the Games would be held without spectators at all or would begin later. Now, the Japanese authorities and the International Olympic Committee have decided that the competition should take place no later than the summer of 2021. - Human lives take precedence over everything, including the organization of the Games. The IOC wants to be part of the solution. Therefore, we have made it our main principle to protect the health of all participants and help curb the spread of the virus,” said IOC President Thomas Bach earlier. Throughout the history of the Olympics, it was canceled five times, and all times because of the war. In 1916, due to World War I, the summer games did not take place in Berlin. In 1940, the games were first moved from Japan to Finland, and then canceled due to World War II. For the same reasons, the Winter Games in Germany broke down in 1940. 1944 went down in history as a year without Olympics in the UK and Germany.
