Berdimuhamedov launches spring tree planting
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov launched the spring tree planting campaign by planting a juniper tree in the newly created forest near Ashgabat. The head of state was joined by government members, representatives of ministries, agencies, and public organizations and young people during the action.
Before the start of mass tree planting, the Turkmen leader congratulated all participants on the Nowruz holiday that is regarded as start of fieldwork season. On the eve and today Saturday morning, as if by order, there was a a light rain that that moistened the earth. It was like spring greetings to all farmers from awaken nature as, from ancient times, it was believed by Turkmen that rain on the eve of Nowruz is a blessing from heaven for a noble fruitful year.
A light drizzling rain also was good the current tree planting in the Nowruz Valley, a place in the foothills of Ahal for wide open-air celebration festivities.
In addition, there is a yurt-shaped large concert hall – a yurt is a traditional Turkmen house – with young pine and silkworm trees growing around. Thin branches of fruit trees began to blossom.
On the threshold of today’s campaign, another plot of land with holes in the ground for tree planting was prepared as well as tools and seedlings were brought.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov planted the first tree, and work began to move along in high gear, while TV newsmen also managed to shoot stories.
The same festive eco-events were held on Saturday morning in all regions of the country. According to the organizers, more than 1 million 604 thousand trees of different sorts were planted in green zones.
In total, during the 2020 planting campaign, it is planned to plant 10 million trees in Turkmenistan, with half out of them – on the outskirts of Ashgabat.
