The population of Central Asia will grow by more than a million in 2020

The population of Central Asia in 2020 will grow by 1.66% – about 1,172 thousand people. This forecast is based on UN data presented by the Worldometer project. According to the latest UN estimates, the current population of Central Asia is 74,500,626 people (the 5th place among sub regions of Asia) – this is about 1% of the total population of the Earth. Uzbekistan comprises about 45%, Kazakhstan – 25%, Tajikistan – 13%, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan – 8.5%. The birth rate is also positive – about 3 children per woman of reproductive age, which explains the sustaining dynamics of population growth. 48% of people live in cities, which changes the perception of Central Asia as a region with a predominance of rural population. The economy is mainly focused on industrialization and reorienting exports from raw materials to products with high value added. Central Asia remains one of the youngest regions with an average age of 27.6 years. Worldometer is managed by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers for the purpose of making global statistics accessible. The source data is used at United Nations conferences, BBC News, etc.
