UN Resident Coordinator: Turkmenistan leads the development of joint programs

Turkmenistan has become a leader at the global level in the development a new program of cooperation with the United Nations, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova said during the signing ceremony of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for the next five years that took place in Ashgabat. She informed those presented at the ceremony that the Cooperation Framework will be signed by the heads of 18 UN entities that to make up a UN Country Team. She also emphasized that the number of members of the UN Country Team almost doubled. Moreover, the majority are those UN agencies who to assist will be attracted from outside of Turkmenistan. “This once again stresses the ambitiousness of the Cooperation Framework, which is aimed at achieving the SDGs in the country, as well as the desire of UN entities to provide support,” Elena Panova said. According to her, the whole process, from development to approval of a new Cooperation Framework, took 9 months, during which the main priorities for cooperation for 2021-2025 were identified. This document is the result of multilateral consultations with national partners, including representatives of public organizations, the private sector and youth. The UN Resident Coordinator emphasized that the Program is aimed at deepening cooperation in economic diversification with a focus on improving financial services and developing green industries, adaption to climate change in agricultural production and water use. The improvement of services in the areas of healthcare, social protection, and education are the important component of the program. In addition, the program provides for cooperation with the private sector, including public organizations, international financial agencies and bilateral development partners, in order to realize our common desire to develop a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable Turkmenistan, Elena Panova added.
