Rector of the St. Petersburg Conservatory will give a concert in Ashgabat


An evening of chamber music with the participation of honored artist of the Russian Federation, cellist Alexey Vasiliev and honored artist of Turkmenistan Vladimir Mkrtumov will be held on March 15 at the Makhtumkuli Music and Drama Theater in Ashgabat.
The concert program consists of two sections – sonatas for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven, Alfred Schnittke and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
“Alexey Vasiliev is an old friend of mine, with whom we studied together at the music school under the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His arrival is a great opportunity to perform on the same stage more than 30 years later,” shared Vladimir Mkrtumov.
Alexey Vasiliev is a laureate of many international contests and rector of the N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Russia’s oldest music University. “I still feel like a student at the Conservatory, because every time I learn something new,” said the musician in an interview.
Mr. Vasiliev not only heads the St. Petersburg Conservatory and continues to perform, but also directs the Algirdas Paulavicius Youth Symphony Orchestra, which has approved itself at the best concert venues in St. Petersburg. The musician also regularly conducts cello master classes in Russia and abroad.
