Kabul prepares for mid-November Ashgabat economic cooperation forum
On Saturday, 26 Aug, two-day meeting started in Kabul to outline the major trans-regional projects to be included in agenda of forthcoming VII Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-VII) in Turkmenistan, reports Pahjwok Afghan News Agency.
The first day of the meeting in Kabul was attended by high-level Afghan officials, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives from various countries and international organizations.
Ms. Adila Raz, deputy foreign minister for economic cooperation of Afghanistan, told the agenda envisages totally over 30 projects, however, only several of them the meeting will be prioritized for further consideration in Ashgabat.
Afghan government is specially focused on such projects as railroad connectivity between Afghanistan, China, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan; Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline (TAPI), Central Asia-South Asia power transmission project (CASA-1000), and TUTAP project, which provides for construction of 500-KW electricity transmission line Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan.
RECCA-VII, scheduled for 14-15 November 2017 in Ashgabat, will summarize the progress of Afghanistan and neighbor-countries have made on a crucial energy, infrastructure and transportation projects and would present investment opportunities to be mutually advantageous for regional and international business circles.
RECCA is a policy dialogue and trust-building mechanism, established in 2005, with a purpose to promote stabilization in Afghanistan, to deepen the regional economic integration in South and Central Asia.
