Russian Gosfilmofond invites Turkmen filmmakers to the festival of archival cinema

The State Film Fund of the Russian Federation invites filmmakers of Turkmenistan to take part in the 23rd international festival of archival cinema. Retro films will be shown in the legendary Moscow cinema "Illusion".
The participation of Turkmen colleagues should add a special touch to the festival program. It’s not in vain that the famous comedy films “Silent Daughter”, “The Trick of Old Ashir”, “Mischievous Brothers”, dramatic films “Shukur Bakshi”, “Decisive Step”, “Tree Jamal”, “Doves live in kyarizes” and others, so beloved by generations of Turkmen spectators, for foreigners are almost like a textbook, telling about the aspirations and worldviews of the whole people.
Many films produced in Turkmenistan are world famous. Some remain underestimated in the world movie scene. The Archival Film Festival is trying to draw attention to such movies. Often, the best shows are given to films that have been lying on shelves for decades. So the film “Page from the Biography” from 1928, the first full-length film of the future creator of “Cranes Flying” Mikhail Kalatozov, was opened to the viewer.
But in addition to archival tapes, contemporary movies are also shown at the festival. Thus, the continuity of film heritage and the development of the industry are traced.
Turkmen films should expand the geography of the event and take an appropriate place in the crown of world cinema, the organizers are sure. And therefore they hope to see colleagues from Turkmenistan at the festival.
In addition to film screenings, the program of the event planned for August 2020 will include demonstrations of modern films, meetings and round tables, lectures, receptions.
