Turkmenistan awaited at VI World Folkloriad 2020 in Ufa
The organizers of the World Folkloriad 2020 in Bashkiria are waiting for Turkmenistan to participate in this cultural forum. Arthur Alibakov, head of the Directorate for the preparation and conduct of the World Folkloriad 2020, confirmed that negotiations are underway with Turkmenistan on this issue.
From July 18 to August 1, the Republic of Bashkortostan of the Russian Federation will host the largest international festival of traditional culture - the 6th World Folkloriad of the International Council of Organization of Folk Festivals and Traditional Arts (CIOFF).
The opening ceremony will be held in Ufa on July 18 at the Ufa Arena. As the organizers explain, the goal of the folkloriad is to unite representatives of intangible cultural heritage around the world.
The event venue combines various elements of folk art: dancing, songs, playing musical instruments, traditional games. As Arthur Alibakov noted in his speech, the national section of CIOFF has been working in Russia for about 30 years and today is represented by the State Russian House of Folk Art.
“The World Folkloriada CIOFF accepts participants from countries that are members of the organization. As a host country, we have the right to invite other countries. We sent invitations to Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Moldova and Kazakhstan have confirmed their participation. Negotiations are underway with Turkmenistan,” Alibakov said.
The festival program includes colorful costumed street parades, concerts, exhibitions of works of decorative art, master classes, various interactive venues, national games of different nations.

World Folkloriada is held once every four years. The idea of choosing dates was borrowed from the Olympic Games. The festival has its own flag, coat of arms, anthem, motto.
Within the framework of the Folkloriad, artists from around the world present the traditions of the art of their peoples, demonstrate crafts, national cuisine, etc.
Folkloriads took place in Brunssum (Netherlands), Tokyo (Japan), Pecs and Budapest (Hungary), Anson (South Korea), Zacatecas (Mexico).
The holding of the Folkloriad in 2020 in Russia, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, was announced in October 2015 at the 45th World Congress and at the General Assembly of the International Council of Organization of Folk Festivals and Traditional Arts (CIOFF).
Folkloriad 2020 may be the largest in history. It is expected that more than three thousand guests will come to Ufa. Events will be held at 10 different venues.
