Turkmen Derby: winners of festive races awarded cash prizes


On September 28, traditional holiday races were held at the Ahal-Teke International Equestrian Complex in honor of Independence Day of Turkmenistan, the winners of which receive large cash prizes each year.
President Berdimuhamedov, on whose initiative these competitions are held in order to popularize equestrian sports and the Ahal-Teke breed of horses, famous for their refined beauty and outstanding qualities - extraordinary playfulness, tremendous endurance and devotion, also became the spectator of the race.
In total, within the framework of hippodrome competitions there were 7 races, in each of which 12 racers took part. The prize fund consists of remuneration from state complexes that unite the branches of the Turkmen economy.
For example, the prize for victory in the first race at 1,800 meters is given by a complex of finance and economics, in the second race - by the oil and gas complex of the country, etc. Races were also held at distances of 2200 and 2400 meters.
As a result of competitions six winners of races were awarded with 15 thousand US dollars each. The winner of the final race for the main prize, received a cash award of $ 30 thousand US dollars.
