Turkmen sericulture is on the rise: new prospects in the industry

In Turkmenistan, the Agricultural Department will deal with sericulture now. Before that, the branch was part of the textile industry. The Ministry of Textile Industry will hand over the relevant enterprises to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection. The Resolution was signed by the President of Turkmenistan today. Another Presidential Resolution prescribes to ensure the production of 2,100 tons of silkworm cocoon overall countrywide in 2020. The largest part of them falls on Lebap – 1,010 tons, then Dashoguz region – 500 tons, Mary region – 410 tons, Akhal – 155 tons and the Balkan – 25 tons. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection will conclude agreements with regional administrations for the production of silkworm cocoons. The establishment will also underwrite the providing of specialized farms with silkworm eggs to the necessary extent. According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, in 2019 there was a quick growth pace of raw silk production – 95% more than in 2018.
