“Cooperation with Turkmenistan is one of the priority areas of international activity of the Astrakhan region,” said Governor of the Russian region Igor Babushkin at a meeting with the Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan Atadurdy Bayramov. The parties discussed the development of relations within the Astrakhan-Turkmen Council on Entrepreneurship, the Internet portal of the executive bodies of state power in the Astrakhan region reports. A memorandum on the creation of the council was signed last May at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission for Economic Cooperation. The first meeting of the council was held in August 2019 in Turkmenistan as part of the I Caspian Economic Forum. The second meeting is scheduled for April 2020 in the Astrakhan region. In 2021, the II Caspian Economic Forum will be held in Astrakhan. “We connect the activities of the council with the prospects for expanding our business relations,” said Igor Babushkin and emphasized that the regional government is fully interested in further joint work in other areas. The Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan noted that the country's leadership fully supports the work of the Council on Entrepreneurship. “We are also ready to develop our relations in all areas, including in the field of transport, logistics and creating a comfortable atmosphere for entrepreneurs,” said Atadurdy Bayramov. During the meeting, the parties again discussed the prospects of opening regular flights between the Astrakhan region and Turkmenistan. The first step in this direction was taken in the framework of the Caspian Economic Forum: then two direct test flights were organized from Astrakhan to Turkmenbashi and back. It is noted that in 2019 the foreign trade turnover between the Astrakhan region and Turkmenistan amounted to 5.6 million US dollars. Five enterprises with the participation of Turkmen capital operate in the region.
