Xi Jinping to visit Myanmar - for the first time in 19 years
On January 17-18, President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Myanmar, China Daily reports. For the first time in 19 years, the leader of the Middle Kingdom will visit this country of Southeast Asia.
Xi Jinping will meet with Myanmar President Wu Mynt, will hold talks with Myanmar’s State Advisor Aung San Suu Kyi and Defense Services Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hling.
Since this year marks 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, the President of China will take part in events dedicated to this significant date, as well as the opening ceremony of the China-Myanmar Tourism Year.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui said that both sides will continue to strive to deepen cooperation in the framework of the One Belt One Road initiative. China is Myanmar's largest trading partner and a major source of foreign investment. Last year, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $ 15 billion. According to Luo, being both the initiators and participants of the "five principles of peaceful coexistence", countries always adhere to the basic rules governing international relations.
Following the visit, both countries will issue a joint statement covering areas such as politics, economics and others.
