Compromise, which was expected: the legal status of the Caspian Sea will be determined in 2018
Coastal states can sign an agreement defining the legal status of the Caspian in the next year. This is the opinion of the Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Special Representative of the Russian Federation on Delimitation and Demarcation of the Border with Neighboring CIS Countries I. Bratchikov. He states that most of the content of the document is already identified, as well as the fact that the Caspian states understand that this will be a compromise solution. The agreement is designed to ensure clear and well defined norms of joint activity at sea and regulation of possible disputable situations. According to the common opinion of all parties, the document on the status of the sea should ensure the preservation of the Caspian Sea as a sea of friendship and good-neighborliness.
