Turkmen jewelry art will be presented at the international specialized exhibition of fashion jewelry, accessories and jewelry in Moscow.
The show will be held from 18 to 20 September 2018 in the exhibition complex "Gostiny Dvor". Leaders of Russian and foreign markets will present the main trends of the upcoming season, new collections of jewelry and accessories of leading companies and fashion houses.
Jewelery art today, like hundreds of years ago, occupies an important place in the traditions of Turkmen, being an integral part of everyday life and holidays, national rites and rituals. The modern plastic of Turkmen jewelry has not undergone any noticeable changes, becoming only more compact, elegant, allowing "freedom" in style, composition, structure of the ornament.
The main material for their creation is silver, sometimes covered with gilding. Ornaments were finely and tastefully decorated with engraving, notching, as well as incrustation with carnelian, sometimes together with turquoise or other ornamental stones. Simple and integral geometric forms - circle, rhombus, triangle, square - created a harmony of general perception of the national costume, concentrating attention, first of all, on the person's personality.
These are not only objects designed to emphasize female beauty, but also having a deep sacral meaning, rooted in distant times. Jewelry-charms, endowed with magical power to protect from evil spirits, evil eye, ornaments-prayers, granting strength, procreation, bonding marriage bonds, ornaments-medicines, having the ability to heal from illnesses, to give good health, vivacity.
Since the end of the XIX century unique Turkmen jewelry has become permanent exhibits of international exhibitions and fairs: in 1887 - in Copenhagen, in 1893 - in Chicago, in 1894 - in Lyons and Antwerp, in 1900 - in Paris. Orientalists V.Bartold, A.Samoilovich and others more than a hundred years ago were the first to study the art of Turkmen jewelers-zergers, the variety and symbolism of ornaments, and the traveler M.Alikhanov-Avarsky, who visited Merv at the end of the XIX century, recalled: "... All Merv women wear silver ornaments that are a matter of pride. On each - a few heavy bracelets, earrings and other ornaments, so that from a distance it seems that this is a silver chain mail, decorated with carnelian ... "
